Chinese President Xi Jinping is in Washington for a three-day visit.
Xi and his wife were greeted on their arrival at the Joint Base Andrews’ airport in person by Donald Trump and first lady, Melania.
The red carpet ceremony included a military salute and honour guard, the playing of the national anthems of both China and the US and a flyover by two B-1 bombers.
Events planned during the visit include a state dinner with tech chiefs.
Trade, technology and the Iran war are likely to be among the subjects covered during formal talks.
