President Trump is speaking at the US military base Fort Bragg to celebrate the 250th anniversary of the US Army.
His speech comes shortly after he authorized the sending of troops to quell immigration riots in Los Angeles, including over 2,000 National Guard and 700 marines.
Taking to his social media site Truth Social, President Trump said his decision to send the troops has spared the city from burning to the ground like the thousands of homes which were destroyed during wildfires earlier this year.
California’s Governor Gavin Newsom has described President Trump’s decision as ‘reckless’ and ‘pointless’.
