Earlier on Tuesday, authorities said Cavalcante stole a rifle from a garage and fled a homeowner’s gunfire, as police closed roads in suburban Philadelphia, told residents to lock their doors and set up a new search area in the nearly 2-week-old manhunt
Cavalcante, who was jailed in Pennsylvania for killing his former girlfriend in 2021, broke out of Chester County Prison on 31 August.
He escaped by "crab-walking" up the walls in the outdoor exercise area before climbing onto the roof, CCTV showed.
