The water regulator Ofwat has announced that water bills in England and Wales are to rise by 36% on average over the next five years.
Water companies have asked for an average rise of 40%.
Meanwhile, the company permitted the biggest jump of 53% in bills, Southern Water, has been forced to apologise after 60,000 homes were left without water.
