We’re out with one of the Metropolitan Police’s new specialist patrols aimed at dealing with a rising tide of anti-Semitism.
The patrols cover areas with large Jewish populations, like Golders Green, Hendon, Finchley and Edgware, and only respond to reports of terror attacks and hate crimes.
The operation, introduced in the wake of the Golders Green stabbing attacks, requires 1000 extra officer shifts a week and relies on overtime and the redeployment of police officers from other parts of London.
The Metropolitan Police tell me they have a good working relationship with both Shomrim and the Community Security Trust (CST), another security force which handles the protection of synagogues and other Jewish sites.
Volunteers from both Shomrim and CST will often be first to be alerted to an incident and then liaise with the police depending on the severity.
