Donald Trump and New York mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani put aside the name-calling and combative attitude of recent months during their first White House meeting, where the pair praised each other repeatedly in front of reporters.
Despite Trump previously labelling Mamdani a "100% Communist Lunatic" and Mamdani hitting back by calling the president’s administration "authoritarian" and identifying himself as "Donald Trump’s worst nightmare," the pair seemed to focus on what they had in common on Friday.
They discussed housing affordability and the cost of food and utilities in New York City, after Mamdani successfully used frustration over inflation to get elected, just as the president did in the 2024 election.
