‘We were hoping this wasn’t going to happen’: expert says industry had concerns about Titan

In 2018 Will Kohnen, chairman of the Marine Technology Society’s (MTS) committee on manned submersibles, addressed a letter to the Titan’s maker OceanGate. In the letter, reported by the New York Times, Kohnen expressed what he said were widespread concerns about the sub. Speaking after the sub went missing, he said it can be difficult to find out where you are under the water and that OceanGate’s Titan strategy was ‘risky’.
