West Midlands Police chief has been 'thrown under a bus' over Maccabi fan ban fallout

Ayoub Khan, Independent MP for Birmingham Perry Bar, has insisted that West Midlands Police chief, Craig Guildford has been "thrown under a bus".

Guildford retired amid criticism of the force’s decision to ban fans of Israeli team Maccabi Tel Aviv from a game against Aston Villa last year.

But Mr Khan hit out at the decision telling Sky News: "He protected Brummies, he protected the local communities and he has been thrown under the bus for doing his job."

He went on to say it was "trial by media, false narratives spun right from the very top and the writing was on the wall when the home secretary made her statement in parliament."
