The Alpine nation of Slovenia is grappling with the aftermath of the worst flooding in memory. While in Spain and Portugal, wildfires rage amid southern Europe’s summer heatwave.
EU Chief Ursula von der Leyen is heading to Slovenia today to offer support after flash flooding ravaged the Alpine country and claimed six lives.
Many European nations including Germany have sent specialists and emergency equipment to help Slovenia with the clean-up operation. DW’s Rosie Birchard traveled to the region of Carinthia to meet some of those hardest hit by what’s been described as Slovenia’s worst-ever natural disaster.
