What is the government's new advice on screen time for children?

The prime minister has told ITV News he is ready for a "fight" with social media firms over addictive content as the government releases guidance in an effort to keep children away from mobile phone, tablet and TV screens.

The guidance, published on Friday, also says that screen time for children under two should be avoided altogether, other than for shared activities encouraging interaction.

The new advice is underpinned by a panel that the government say have "reviewed scientific evidence" and "found that long periods of time spent on screens alone can get in the way of activities critical for development like sleep, physical activity, creative play, and interaction with parents".
