What will the new Tik Tok deal mean for US users? | DW News

TikTok’s Chinese owner ByteDance has signed deals to sell over 80 percent of its US assets to American and global investors — and avoid a US government ban. The deal is a major milestone for TikTok – which says the short‑video app is used by over 170 million Americans. It comes after years of disputes that began in August 2020, when President Donald Trump attempted to ban the app over national security concerns. He changed his stance after successfully using the app during his second presidential campaign. We speak to Paul Triolo, Partner and China expert at the strategic advisory firm DGA-Albright Stonebridge, and Dan Whateley, correspondent at Business Insider.
