What you need to know about Syria’s first post-Assad elections | DW News

Vote counting is underway in Syria after the first parliamentary elections since the fall of the Assad regime last December. Final results are due in the coming days. There is no direct vote for the parliament, known as the People’s Assembly. So-called Electoral Colleges choose two thirds of the seats with interim President Ahmed al-Sharaa selecting the rest. Not all regions voted – authorities suspended the polls in three provinces for what they say are security reasons.
