Pakistan has declared an "open war" with Afghanistan after launching what it described as retaliatory strikes against its neighbour, further ramping up tensions between the two Middle Eastern countries.
Fighting between the two countries escalated into a serious armed confrontation before reaching an uneasy ceasefire back in October.
The two countries share a long and complicated history, dating back to Pakistan’s creation in 1947.
Bound by social, ethnic, and economic ties, relations have been volatile and at times descended into armed conflict.
