
It will feel even colder in the next 48 hours as bitter Arctic air flows through the entire British Isles, seeping as far south as the Channel Islands and into France.
Temperatures will be barely above freezing by day and well below freezing by night, so expect frozen ground with frost and ice.
With the first winter hazards of the season for many of us, there are warnings out for ice and snow.
Currently, an amber warning is in place for snow across north-east England from the early hours of Thursday morning onwards – the area most prone will be this area of north Yorkshire, through the North York Moors. Expect significant snowfall here and accumulations with disruption to travel and power supplies.
Brisk, biting northerly winds will blow snow across higher routes, making for dangerous and challenging conditions.
