Why are Black women far more likely to die in maternity?

In America maternal mortality is at a 60-year high, with women from black and native american backgrounds faring the worst.

While death in childbirth is relatively rare, the United States has the highest rate, far outstripping other developed countries.

It’s a trend that activists, lawmakers and medical professionals say they are desperately trying to reverse.

But change isn’t coming easily.
