Why are so few young people in work?

The number of 16 to 24-year-olds in the UK who are not in education, employment or training (NEET) rose again in the final three months of last year.

Official estimates from the Office for National Statistics show that 957,000 people in this age group were NEET between October and December – 12.8% of the total.

Of those, 547,000 said they were not looking for work.
