Even though tomorrow’s summit has been arranged hastily by diplomatic standards, the choice of Alaska may prove an inspired one.
America’s 49th state still bears some of the imprints of the century and a half it was part of the Russian Empire.
But for the last century and a half, it has been American – bought in a deal President Trump would approve of – in 1867.
The airbase meeting point, outside the capital Anchorage, is roughly four thousand miles from both Moscow and Washington.
