London’s attempt to hit motorists with more stringent anti pollution measures may have proved a liability at the polls – but British cities are still legally obliged to become greener.
Several places have introduced Clean Air Zones – while Manchester has abandoned plans to impose more charges on drivers, in favour of other incentives – from a free city centre bus to subsidies to encourage drivers to upgrade their vehicles.
