The Government has taken control of the planning process for two major new reservoirs.
They have been declared ‘nationally significant’, taking planning out of the hands of local councils.
ITV News Science Correspondent Martin Stew has been looking into the water scarcity challenge facing the country.
The UK is expected to experience a shortfall of 5 billion litres of water per day by 2050.
And the nine new reservoirs being planned by the government will not be enough to cover that shortfall.
