They were meant to calm the traffic in Birkenhead.

But new road markings have left locals seeing red – or, more accurately, orange.

Wirral Council has introduced what it calls an attractive new "surface design".

But locals have pointed out that it looks like a spilled packet of cheesy Wotsits.
