Wildfires are continuing to burn in the Cairngorms; today Scotland’s First Minister visited the area to thank those involved in the combined effort to tackle it.
The wildfire began last Wednesday in the Cairngorms National Park.
So far, more than 3 square miles of heather and trees have been burned. And some homes, business and campsites in the area have been evacuated.
Questions have now been raised on whether the response was by officials was adequate.
Elsewhere nearly half of England is in a state of pre-drought – the Environment Agency has warned.
The recent extreme weather has had a severe impact, affecting water supplies and food production, the National Drought Group has heard.
That came as Thames Water became the latest water company to impose hosepipe bans on millions of its customers.
