A woman who claimed to be Madeleine McCann has been found guilty of harassing the missing girl’s family.
Julia Wandelt, 24, claimed to be Madeleine, whose 2007 disappearance in Portugal has not been solved.
The jury unanimously decided Julia Wandelt was not guilty of stalking, but guilty of harassment, and her co-defendant Karen Spragg was found not guilty of stalking or harassment.
Wandelt and Spragg held hands in the dock before the verdicts were handed down, after the jury deliberated for more than seven hours.
Wandelt, from Lublin in Poland, contacted the McCann family by sending emails, leaving voicemails, and turning up at their home in Rothley in Leicestershire, between June 2022 and February this year.
The Polish national is also alleged to have banged on the door of the couple’s address, attended a vigil for Madeleine, and sent social media messages to the girl’s siblings Sean McCann and his twin sister Amelie.
