Women ‘can now feel safe’ as Supreme Court defines woman

Campaigners are celebrating a victory for women after the Supreme Court ruled on what defines a woman.

The terms "woman" and "sex" in the Equality Act 2010 will only refer to a biological woman and biological sex, Britain’s top judges ruled this morning.

Speaking in the Supreme Court, Lord Hodge declared that it was not the court’s responsibility to create policy on the way in which transgender people should be protected by the law.
