Gavin Newsom condemned the move as \u201cpurposefully inflammatory\u201d.   It comes after three days of protests against immigration raids in the city. <\/p>\n<p>The Los Angeles Police Department have said the protests are largely peaceful and the LA authorities said they could handle the situation.<\/p>\n<p>National Guard troops have been stationed outside the Metropolitan detention centre, one of several sites that have seen confrontations involving hundreds of demonstrators and federal law enforcement officials.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s the first time a US president has deployed the National Guard in the face of civil unrest since the LA riots in 1992.
