{"id":290354,"date":"2025-10-27T00:04:50","date_gmt":"2025-10-27T00:04:50","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsisc.com\/videos\/mum-dies-after-being-injected-with-black-market-skinny-jab-itv-news\/"},"modified":"2025-10-27T00:04:50","modified_gmt":"2025-10-27T00:04:50","slug":"mum-dies-after-being-injected-with-black-market-skinny-jab-itv-news","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsisc.com\/videos\/mum-dies-after-being-injected-with-black-market-skinny-jab-itv-news\/","title":{"rendered":"Mum dies after being injected with black market \u2018skinny jab\u2019\u00a0 | ITV News"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i1.ytimg.com\/vi\/4ePMCaDPX-g\/hqdefault.jpg\" alt=\"Mum dies after being injected with black market \u2018skinny jab\u2019\u00a0 | ITV News\"><br \/> <iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/4ePMCaDPX-g\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe> <\/p>\n<p>The \u201cheartbroken\u201d daughters of a woman who died after being injected with a black market \u2018skinny jab\u2019 have called for a crackdown on the sale of unlicensed weight loss drugs.  <\/p>\n<p>In an exclusive interview with ITV News, the family are the first in the UK to speak publicly about a death linked to fake weight loss jabs.  <\/p>\n<p>Karen McGonigal, 53, from Salford in Greater Manchester, died in May, just days after she was illegally administered a dose of semaglutide.  <\/p>\n<p>Paying tribute to their \u201ckind and loving\u201d mother, Abbie and Ffion McGonigal said she had \u201clived for her kids and grandkids.\u201d  <\/p>\n<p>\u201cShe had the biggest heart and would do anything for anybody,\u201d Abbie told ITV News, adding, \u201cif she was your friend &#8211; you were lucky\u201d. <\/p>\n<p>In the months before her death, Karen had been struggling with her mental health and was \u201cdesperate\u201d to lose weight.  <\/p>\n<p>Her daughters say her self-esteem suffered when her long-term relationship ended, and she felt that being overweight was \u201cruining her life\u201d. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cShe didn\u2019t feel happy in herself, she didn\u2019t want to go out anywhere. I think she just wanted her old self back &#8211; she wanted to lose weight to get her confidence back,\u201d said Abbie. <\/p>\n<p>Karen visited her GP, where she had tests to see if she would be eligible for weight loss injections.  <\/p>\n<p>She was unable to get the medication on the NHS, but was told by friends that it was available to buy at a local beauty salon.  <\/p>\n<p>ITV News has seen text messages sent by a beautician offering the jabs for \u00a320 each.  <\/p>\n<p>However, weight-loss injections can only be legally and safely dispensed with a prescription from a healthcare professional, such as a doctor or pharmacist.<\/p>\n<p>Karen visited the salon a number of times for what she was told were Mounjaro injections.  <\/p>\n<p>Her youngest daughter, Ffion, told ITV News the beautician \u201cstopped doing a woman\u2019s nails\u201d to take Karen into a back room where she was injected with a syringe.  <\/p>\n<p>\u201cNo preparation, no cleaning, nothing.
