{"id":323994,"date":"2026-03-07T12:00:14","date_gmt":"2026-03-07T12:00:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsisc.com\/videos\/soham-murderer-ian-huntley-dies-in-hospital-after-attack-in-prison-itv-news\/"},"modified":"2026-03-07T12:00:14","modified_gmt":"2026-03-07T12:00:14","slug":"soham-murderer-ian-huntley-dies-in-hospital-after-attack-in-prison-itv-news","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsisc.com\/videos\/soham-murderer-ian-huntley-dies-in-hospital-after-attack-in-prison-itv-news\/","title":{"rendered":"Soham murderer Ian Huntley dies in hospital after attack in prison | ITV News"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i2.ytimg.com\/vi\/QnWJFnLzSp4\/hqdefault.jpg\" alt=\"Soham murderer Ian Huntley dies in hospital after attack in prison | ITV News\"><br \/> <iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/QnWJFnLzSp4\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe> <\/p>\n<p>Double child murderer Ian Huntley has died in hospital more than a week after being attacked in prison.<\/p>\n<p>The 52 year-old former caretaker, who was convicted of killing schoolgirls Holly Wells and Jessica Chapman in Soham, Cambridgeshire in 2002, was admitted to hospital on Thursday 26 February with serious head injuries.<\/p>\n<p>He had been on life support at Newcastle&#8217;s Royal Victoria Infirmary since then, and died on Friday.<\/p>\n<p>Huntley was serving a life sentence at HMP Frankland in County Durham, when he was attacked by another inmate in the prison&#8217;s workshop on Thursday.<\/p>\n<p>A Ministry of Justice spokesperson said: \u201cThe murders of Holly Wells and Jessica Chapman remains one of the most shocking and devastating cases in our nation\u2019s history, and our thoughts are with their families.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>A spokesman for Durham Constabulary said: \u201cA man who was attacked at HMP Frankland in Durham last week has died in hospital this morning.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIan Huntley, 52, was taken to hospital with serious injuries following an incident in the workshop on the morning of Thursday, February 26.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cA police investigation into the circumstances of the incident is ongoing.
