Milne, 40, was jailed at the same court on Friday for eight years.

It marks a significant shift in the Scottish justice system, recognising that perpetrators of domestic violence can be held to account when their abuse drives a victim to take their own life.

Campaigners and charities have long called for this recognition.

Their cause for celebration comes at the cost of tragedy and loss of life.

In 2023, after an argument with her husband, Milne, 28-year-old Kimberly jumped to her death from a motorway bridge in Dundee.

Also on the Evening News:

US Vice President JD Vance set off to the Pakistani capital of Islamabad on Friday to lead mediated talks with Iran amid a shaky ceasefire.

Vance said he believed negotiations were going to be "positive", but warned Iran not "to play" the United States, or talks could break down.

"As the President of the United States said, if the Iranians are willing to negotiate in good faith, we’re certainly willing to extend the open hand", he told reporters as he prepared to depart from the US.

"If they’re going to try to play us, then they’re going to find that the negotiating team is not that receptive. So we’re going to try to have a positive negotiation."

While he shared an optimistic outlook with reporters, his warning cast a dark cloud on an already tenuous and temporary ceasefire, which already appears to be on the precipice of collapsing.

The Vice President will be joined by Trump’s special envoy Steve Witkoff and son-in-law Jared Kushner.

————————————————————————————————
For more of the biggest news stories in the UK and around the world, visit the ITV News YouTube channel: http://bit.ly/2lOHmNj

• Subscribe to ITV News In Full on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/@ITVNewsInFull
• Get breaking news and more stories at: http://www.itv.com/news

• Follow ITV News on TikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@itvnews?lang=en
• Follow ITV News on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/itvnews/
• Follow ITV News on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/itvnews/
• Follow ITV News on X: https://twitter.com/itvnews

It’s taken a lot of steps and lives to get here, but for the first time, Scotland’s legal system has recognised the link between domestic abuse and suicide.
