{"id":385969,"date":"2026-10-08T16:00:54","date_gmt":"2026-10-08T15:00:54","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsisc.com\/videos\/microsoft-president-ai-advanced-quicker-than-we-expected-we-need-to-act-urgently\/"},"modified":"2026-10-08T16:00:54","modified_gmt":"2026-10-08T15:00:54","slug":"microsoft-president-ai-advanced-quicker-than-we-expected-we-need-to-act-urgently","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsisc.com\/videos\/microsoft-president-ai-advanced-quicker-than-we-expected-we-need-to-act-urgently\/","title":{"rendered":"Microsoft President: AI advanced quicker than we expected &#8211; we need to act urgently"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i1.ytimg.com\/vi\/0f3LNe1bqdI\/hqdefault.jpg\" alt=\"Microsoft President: AI advanced quicker than we expected - we need to act urgently\"><br \/> <iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/0f3LNe1bqdI\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe> <\/p>\n<p>Six in ten people in the UK think Artificial Intelligence will destroy more jobs than it creates.<\/p>\n<p>The President of Microsoft, Brad Smith, is optimistic that won\u2019t be the case &#8211; that in the future people will still be in work, although a period of upheaval lies ahead.<\/p>\n<p>Smith believes jobs will be lost as AI is rolled out and governments will need to intervene to help people manage the transition.<\/p>\n<p>He spoke of the need to ensure people have the right skills to adapt to this new world; of taxing companies which use AI or robots to replace human labour; and of potentially \u201cprotecting\u201d certain jobs &#8211; teachers, doctors, judges and care workers &#8211; from being performed by AI.<\/p>\n<p>Brad Smith told ITV News that AI has become more powerful in the last two years than anyone in the industry had imagined and that there is a risk humans will lose control of the technology unless there is urgent regulation.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think the time to act is now,\u201d he said. \u201cI don\u2019t believe [AI] is an existential threat today, but I also believe that the best way to avoid having a problem become worse is to address it now. Let\u2019s not wait until it\u2019s beyond our ability to solve.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Bill Gates, the co-founder of Microsoft, used to argue that the risks posed by AI were manageable.<\/p>\n<p>He has changed his mind. Last week, in an interview with the New York Times, he said AI is \u201cthe most dangerous thing humans have ever gone near\u201d and makes nuclear weapons \u201clook like nothing\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Gates says we passed what he called \u201cthe danger threshold\u201d earlier this year.
