Thick plumes of smoke rose from the wreckage of a Colombian Air Force plane as rescuers worked through the crash site in the country’s southern Amazon region. There are fears that scores of military personnel have been killed. The Hercules C-130 was carrying 125 people when it crashed shortly after take-off from Puerto Leguízamo. Local witness Gabriel Rombarillama said he watched the tragedy unfold from the ground. "We felt the impact, and I said, ‘Man, that plane crashed.’"
