The head of MI5 has warned that artificial intelligence is “supercharging” threats to the UK’s national security.

In an annual threat update, Sir Ken McCallum highlighted “real” risks that AI could help extremist groups harness new and existing bioweapons, and produce radicalising material tailored to an individual.
He added that the security service had “caught terrorists seeking to exploit AI to improve their reconnaissance and attack methodologies, with AI-enabled drones adding a new twist”.
