Burnham says he will ‘pause’ the early release scheme for prisoners

The prime minister has said he will "put a pause" on the early release scheme for prisoners, which was due to start in September.

Under the new Sentencing Act set to come into force in September, some 6,000 criminals were due to be released under the early prison release scheme.

Asked about Prime Minister Andy Burnham’s decision, Adlam said it was "a good start" but is "not enough".
