Dozens of vehicles were burned and shops looted as protests over a court ruling on asylum status turned violent in two South African cities on October 8.
Cars were torched in the Soweto township in Johannesburg, and protests took place outside the Home Affairs offices in Durban.
The protests oppose the Constitutional Court’s decision to remove procedural barriers to seeking asylum. It follows months of anti-migrant tensions across the country.
