
Construction of an octagon arena has commenced on the White House lawn ahead of a UFC event marking Donald Trump’s 80th birthday on 14th June. The event will also celebrate the 250th anniversary of the United States taking place on 4th July.

Trump, the first president to attend a UFC show, said director Dana White will build “a 5,000-seat arena right outside the front door of the White House” while eight large screens will allow ticketholders to watch the contests from a nearby park.
85,000 free tickets will be issued for the event whose main fight features Brazil’s Alex Pereira taking on France’s Ciryl Gane for the interim UFC heavyweight title, however notable absentees include fighters Conor McGregor and Jon Jones.
