Prime Minister Andy Burnham has announced the "pause" of the early release of prisoners in England following uproar over plans for two of the killers of PC Andrew Harper to be set free.
Andy Burnham said the early release scheme – which was due to start in September – will now be stopped until a thorough review is carried out. The mother of the Thames Valley police officer had previously said the fact that two of his killers are being considered for early release is “another letdown” for her son. Pc Harper was 28 years old when he sustained fatal injuries while responding to a quad bike theft in Sulhamstead, Berkshire, in August 2019.
