UK inflation has risen to its highest rate in almost a year as surging petrol and diesel prices pushed up the cost of living.

The rate of Consumer Prices Index inflation was 3.5 per cent in September, up from 3.1 per cent in August.
Between August and September, average petrol prices rose by 8.2p to 169.5p per litre, which was the highest price recorded in around four years.
