A review is being announced into the death of student Henry Nowak, who was murdered by Vickrum Digwa.
The 18-year-old was stabbed five times in December 2025.
When police officers arrived at the scene, Digwa falsely claimed he had been the victim of a racially aggravated assault and denied stabbing anyone.
Despite Henry telling responding officers that he had been stabbed and was struggling to breathe, officers believed Digwa’s false account.
Officers placed Henry in handcuffs and placed him under arrest instead of providing immediate first aid.
Henry lost consciousness shortly after and died at the scene.
Digwa was convicted of murder in May 2026 and sentenced to life imprisonment.
The case led to public outrage, local protests, and separate gross misconduct investigations by the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) into the officers involved.
