MPs are back in the Commons for an emergency debate around the vetting process during and after Lord Mandelson’s appointment as US Ambassador.
Earlier, the former Foreign Office boss who was sacked over the scandal told a parliamentary committee that No 10 held a "dismissive approach" to vetting in Peter Mandelson’s case, which created an "atmosphere of pressure".
Sir Olly Robbins was sacked by the prime minister last week for "deliberately" keeping him in the dark over Mandelson’s failure to pass security vetting checks before he was appointed.
But speaking in front of the Foreign Affairs Committee on Tuesday, Robbins said there had been pressure from Downing Street to clear the appointment, and an expectation that Mandelson "needed to be in post and in America as quickly as humanly possible."
