Reform UK leader Nigel Farage has dubbed the upcoming Makerfield by-election "the biggest in half a century".
Voters in the Makerfield constituency will go to the polls on 18 June, after Labour MP Josh Simmons resigned to allow current Greater Manchester Mayor Andy Burnham to run for Parliament.
Following the announcement of Reform UK’s candidate as Robert Kenyon, Mr Farage visited a pub in the constituency.
He described Andy Burnham as a "big figure in the North West" saying "he’s been the mayor for some time and he’s been dubbed the King of the North".
If he returns to Parliament, the three-time Mayor and former Leigh MP is widely expected to challenge Sir Keir Starmer for the Labour leadership, but the Prime Minister has insisted he will not “walk away” from Downing Street.
