The Prime Minister has said "pubs need to know the cavalry is coming" as he announced a 20% cut to business rates for pubs, clubs and live music venues across England from April next year.
He called this the "first step" in helping the businesses, and hoped it "could make the difference for a number of venues that are struggling".
The discount will apply to nearly 32,000 hospitality businesses.
Conservative Leader Kemi Badenoch said the move did not go far enough to save high streets, repeating her party’s call to "abolish business rates for most of the high street, not just pubs, but shops, restaurants, retail, hospitality, leisure".
